5 hiking trails on Mt. Moiwa

The Moiwa Primeval Forest, designated as a national natural monument, is a treasure trove of nature.

If you don't usually go mountain climbing, why not try using the ropeway and mini cable car on the way up, and then take the mountain climbing course on the way down, enjoying the natural surroundings?

Mt. Moiwa itself is protected as a primeval forest, so you can get up close and personal with small animals such as squirrels and red foxes, as well as wild birds, insects, plants, and trees, making it a fun place for people of all ages, from children to seniors.

Jikeikai Hospital Course

distance Approximately 2.9 km
course Trailhead → (1.8km) → Umanose → (1.1km) → Summit
Features This is the most popular hiking trail. At the entrance, there are not only guide maps, but also toilets, drinking fountains, washing areas, and other facilities. Almost all of the trails are well-maintained, making it an easy climb even for those just starting out.

Transfer to JR Bus "Circulation Circle 10/11 Ropeway Line" and get off at "Jikeikai-mae."
The trailhead is a 2-minute walk away.

Asahiyama Memorial Park Course

distance Approximately 4.0 km
course Trailhead → (2.4km) → T6 Junction → (0.5km) → Umanose → (1.1km) → Summit
Features There is a large parking lot just to the left of the entrance to Asahiyama Memorial Park, and the entrance to the hiking trail is next to it. The trail is relatively hilly, and halfway up you will join the trail in front of Jikeikai Hospital.

Transfer to JR Bus "En 13 Asahiyama Park Line" and get off at "Asahiyama Park Mae".
The trailhead is a 2-minute walk away.

Moiwasan Ski Resort Course

distance Approximately 2.5km
course Trailhead → (2.5km) → Summit
Features This trail starts at the foot of Mt. Moiwa Ski Resort and passes through a bright forest. Along the way, you will pass by a ski slope and be able to see the "Usagidaira Course," which is suitable for advanced skiers and has a difficult bowl-shaped slope.

Take the JR Bus "Minami 55 Moiwa Line" and get off at "Minami 34-jo Nishi 11-chome".
The entrance to the public ski resort trail is a 20-minute walk away.

Kobayashi Pass Course

distance Approximately 4.5km
course Trailhead → (2.9km) → T6 Junction → (0.5km) → Umanose → (1.1km) → Summit
Features This course starts at Kobayashi Pass on the road connecting Nishino and Makomanai, and is popular for its beautiful autumn foliage, with many plants such as violets and grapes. Partway through, it joins the Jikeikai Hospital Course.

Transfer to the JR Bus Minami 97 Kitanosawa Line and get off at Sansui Danchi-mae.
The trailhead is a 23-minute walk away.

Kitanosawa Course

distance Approximately 2.4km
course Trailhead entrance → (1.3km) → Umanose → (1.1km) → Summit
Features This is the shortest of the five courses and is narrow, but relatively easy to walk on.
The hiking trail is wide enough for one adult to walk on and resembles a normal mountain path.
